Beachside – Te Awanga

Beachside –
Te Awanga

Completed in 2015 this coastal property in Te Awanga is centred around the use of natural and recycled materials.

Brief:

Create a vibrant, light coastal home, with playful spaces for a young family.

Key features:

The central spine boardwalk gives a pinhole view from the front entrance looking throughout the house and out to the ocean. The large white cement pavers welcome you on this journey through hand sawn eucalyptus arches covered in rambling ornamental grapes.  Recycled beams and rustic decking shout coastal charm. Erosion setbacks were seen as an opportunity, not a threat, allowing for raised lawns and dune restorations seaward.

The central courtyard and greenwall provides an oasis away from the afternoon sea breezes.

Equipped with a hot outdoor shower and provisions for a wetback hot tub, this family-friendly home utilizes every nook and cranny of its 809m2 site.

The converted shipping container office at the rear of the property is used to take advantage of the tough building regulations in the area. The rustic container is clad in fijian mahogany and combined with the decking, this seamlessly flows onto the back lawn, creating another intimate and secluded sunny space away from sea breezes.
